Installation at the Museum of Jewish Montreal

Our installation in the Museum of Jewish Montreal explores the relation between the public and the private sphere. Curtains that Johannes Mundinger an me collected in different places in Germany are hung from the ceiling, inviting visitors to move through our installation, to draw the curtains or pull them open.

Alongside the main installation Johannes Mundinger and me show a series of photos.

The main inspiration for the work came from (recent) events of German history and the involvement or non involvement of large parts of the population in these. Besides the victims and the perpetrators of violent events there are always the bystanders. People who look the other way or hide behind their curtains. What is their role and their impact on the course of history?
